Photography Madness

« on: March 04, 2010, 03:29:56 PM »

These shots were done on sessions for a calendar.
The main idea is it will be a calendar with girls & guns, every month will be a different girl, with different weapon, on a different location, and this will be completed with different military & police reenactor teams for most months!
Each month will be the one chosen photo from each session.

These photos are NOT the photos which are going to calendar, these are some kind of promo-photos chosen from the best ones.
Photos going to calendar will be the best of each session Wink

First session with help of guys reenacting modern Specnaz team:

modella Ola

Second session was done in US Army style, with a little help of another guys, they delivered me the weapons that i needed:

modella: Ilona

More to come...

This must be a challenging theme/motive for shooting a calendar. I mean, girls with guns... Smiley

Each of these two photos has its strengths and weaknesses. In the first one, I like the general composition, with the defocused male soldier in the background providing an element of authenticity to the scene. The model, OTOH, could be a bit more lively and convincing. Also, cutting off the barrel of the weapon is a no-no in case of the calendar that has guns as the main theme.

In the second photo, the model does a better job and the color of snow is more natural, but the scene lacks authenticity.

I thought the Specnaz guys were sooooo tough. Turns out, they are quite huggable...  Cheesy

It is quite challenging in the aspects of logistics, these two sessions were done quite in my area so good for that, but there will be much more locations, mainly outside of Warsaw, sometimes even on the seashore area (3 sessions), couple sessions to go in the woods out side of Warsaw, another one in the mountains and one more in a big, old factory complex in central Poland. This is quite hard, it needs a lot of things to be done Tongue

So about first photo, i wanted it to be kind of "serious" -like, i chosen it cause it feels like i can see some bad memories in her eyes. I see what you mean by "a bit more lively and convincing" but she's just too sexy for it Cheesy I mean it's hard to make a nice young girl, more harsh and "real" in terms of "war-broken". I don't know how to say it, hope you understand my thought.

The second photo model was more playing, as she is quite experienced, maybe this particular scene lacks of authenticity, but the one chosen for calendar is more dynamic and "dirty". You need to believe me Wink

Specnaz guys surely are quite tough, anyways this calendar is more likely to provide beauty females with nice guns as it is it's main idea Wink

Here are the same photos converted to b/w, i'm interested how you like it now?

Well, if color versions can not be easily color-corrected, I opt for b&w. They work quite good, perhaps even better than originals.

Re the color versions: They remind me of cross-processing, which seems appropriate for the theme. In this context, I prefer that treatment instead of b&w.

That is a valid point, April. However, I still prefer these photos in b&w version. To me, they look much cleaner and the technique (or the lack thereof) does not get in the way of enjoying the scene.
