How I wish I'd thought of this!   Cheesy

I love the allusion to life as spilled wine, and the lighting which suggests the end of a feast.

However, I'm not very fond of the white border in the matte, which cuts into the spacious feeling and accentuates the diagonal at the expense of depth. I can definitely imagine it printed, but would be careful in presentation.

I can clearly see why Theo wanted your feedback, April...

This is quite a different approach to the photographic image than usual Theo's graphic treatment. As such, it is a nice jump-off. But, as often is the case, the single work of an artist in any specific genre is not enough to make up viewer's mind. I am trying to forget for a while about the main body of Theo's work in order to concentrate on this particular specimen.

Even though the image is still very contrasty, the accent is on the 3-dimensional plasticity of the form rather than on graphic-like "on/off" switch between light and dark flat areas. This is a positive in my view. One objection I have (in spite of my own tendencies) is this diagonal placement of your subject. I know, I know, this is a classic element of the visual composition. Maybe a bit too classic, though? Theo, I thought that you were always trying to cross the boundaries of a "classic" look? This is something of a surprise for me...

Other than that, I have to say that after reading April's comment, I agree completely - on the intellectual interpretation, as well as on the technical detail of the white border. In addition, that border makes the subject very crowded within the frame. Without the border, the negative space surrounds the subject in a much more natural and pleasing way, giving it much needed "room to breath".
