I really enjoy the (semi-abstracted) purple stairs, the way the light plays on them and the banisters, and the arcing feeling which takes me UP.

Then I'm thrown by that window -- or perhaps literally, thrown out the window. Super-high contrast, yet nothing to see. So I have to wonder why you placed such emphasis on that element, and struggle unsuccessfully to tie the ideas together.

Much as the banisters have a "broken" flow, which may be your intent!

I love the perspective, the smooth spiral upward movement and the overall composition. I don't even mind the high contrast, the blue glare and the paper-white window. That lower portion of the banister is a bit distracting, though. I would try to remove it for the sake of improvement of the composition. If you are proficient enough in 'photoshopping', you could even try to just "move" this detail back and away from the clearance of the window.

Other than that, I love this image.

I like this variation. Even though a bit more unnatural (?) in the hues, it brings out the wonderful texture in the walls -- which I noticed in the first version but couldn't enjoy as fully -- while the warmth invites me into the space, emotionally.

Edit: Technically, there's some halo above the upper banister which keeps drawing my eye. It appears in the first version, but seems especially noticeable in the second.

Each version seems to have some exclusive attention-grabbing visual points. For instance, I like the cool and mysterious palette of the first version, but the second one has that interesting texture April has mentioned.

I guess, my personal choice would be slightly lighter and (very) slightly warmer variant of the first version, with (very) slightly higher contrast - to enhance that texture. I don't know whether such treatment would work better, but that's what my mind's eye tells me...
