That is very nice what exactly is shingles it looks to me like wodden roof tiles, i like the colours very nice a rich tonal range but I would have prefered to see them orientated in a different way perhaps because I am a geometrical type, I would have liked to see the main lines running preferably horizontally but maybe also vertically or at an agle of 45° just my personal preference though but the pattern is nice I think the sort of thing that would make a nice background possibly fadded out a bit.

I agree. I would try (you guessed it, Roland) a square format and use only the central portion of the frame, where there's the least amount of unsharp elements.

but as so often, you're right. That would also add one more element that helps making the scene into something more uncommon and appealing.
