Do you look at or through a photo?

When you’re young they say the days go on forever and death’s little more than a rumor at the end of the road.

In the Alban Hills, Italy: 10/01/07: 10:59 pm.

Ted, I've been trying long and hard to extract the meaning of this image both with and without the context of the title and your comment and I must admit I have failed. Well, I get the basic contrast between a living bypasser and obituary notices, that are symbols of death, but what is the consequence of that contrast you were aiming at? From the technical point of view, the image is very nicely crafted, but beyond that - it's a mystery to me... Sorry.

What happens to me here is, that I study the signs and try to understand, when all of a sudden, I realize the man coming towards me and giving me one of those views... I feel like I just read something I shouldn't have read, I feel like I'm in the wrong place at the wrong time, and this guy just makes it clear to me without saying a word. This is making me think about voyeurism, about consuming information that is not making sense to me, that probably wasn't meant to be read by me... it is a shot that makes me feel uncomfortable, and I like that fact.

cheers
