Do you look at or through a photo?

This is one of the strongest images you've shown us so far, Ted (at least in my eyes). However, I can't help it but wish you'd crop off the entire area immediately above the frame of this vertical passage. The word "LIFE" inscribed in such a manner seems to me to be pretentious and overwhelming and not contributing anything meaningful to this image.

While I easily relate to the meaning of the scene, with the light at the end of the tunnel, I have a hard time enjoying it, or getting really involved with the tunnel - because of the bright area in the upper left corner. And somehow the word "LIFE" above the tunnel makes me feel that I, as the viewer, have already passed and now look back. Would I still stand on the living side, I'd rather expect "Exit", "Eternal space","Nirwana" or something written up there... Smiley

Somehow I, as the viewer of the photo, don't feel I will pass through this tunnel, or have already passed. I feel quite dissociated with the scene. Maybe I would need more walls on both sides to make me feel I cannot go forward or back except through this tunnel. Now, it feels more like I just lok over my shoulder and see this door, while I walk on to the left or right side...

cheers
