I rather like the incongruity in this image, but am not sure it comes across...

(Working title, only.)

I love this image. It is a sample of what I would recommend to Carlos to study as an example of art ready for sale (I am referring to his post about art photography for sale). The entire composition is built upon pure elements of graphic, color and abstraction - no distracting elements whatsoever.

Personally, I do not find this composition as incongruous. Every element seems to complement all others, unless you are talking about the color palette? But even in the realm of colors, they look to me pretty logical and very well juxtaposed. So, I suppose, you think about something very personal in the way you see your image as incongruous...

Your image has a fresh smell of flower and water, the enigma of dark, shadowy background and a revelation of light, color and shape in the foreground. Nothing to add, nothing to take out.

Thank you very much for your comments, eob.

The incongruity arises, for me, because there is no way those drops can be so perfectly positioned, so round, and "stuck" on the side of the flower like that. Smiley

What an excellent picture in so many aspects. First, there is the distribution of colors, especially the way the gold/yellow is complemented by the green, then there are tose lines on the petal that take my eye and lead it right into the hotspot. Those three drops are simply perfectly placed and add even more interest to the whole composition.

What can I say about the effect, about my associations? Well I stumble to find the words in english, but this is what I feel comes close: gentleness, childlike innocence, virginity, profound thoughts and wondrous fascination. A great shot indeed.

thanks for sharing this beauty with us!

cheers

Thank you for your kinds words, Roland. I'm glad you enjoy this image!

One reason it appeals to me is that, despite the formality, there's just a hint of playfulness --  which makes me smile.

That's exactly where those water droplets come in. Without them, the image might look a bit too formal, too conservative.

great image, very clean

the droplets look almost artificial, but as eob remarked, they are essential.

it feels like this image is lacking a signature - just a thought

thanks for sharing

Thank you for your comments, kai.

You sent me off to re-read Ted's thread on "When to Sign Your Image": http://www.photosapien.net/index.php/topic,282.msg2093.html#new

Maybe when I sell one print I'll embrace Ted's perspective on this subject, which perspective makes perfect sense.
