Any suggestions for matting/presentation would be most welcome. Black was the best of alternatives I tried...

Another stunner. I love the composition in terms of what you put where and the effect not only the elements but also the color distribution has. It's highly designed and extremely well arranged imho. I'd probably try to fit the matte to the picture format, not using a landscape format for a square subject matter. And I'd love to see the second (upper) big green leave a tiny bit more to the left or then moved all inside the white area. Other than that, I don't have anything to add or move. I just enjoy the look.

cheers

Thank you for your feedback, Roland.

I did try a square presentation, and then felt there was no room on the "table" for me to eat with my hands. Smiley
But maybe a bigger surround to the subject in square format would work; I'll give that a try.

As for the leaf, I totally agree that is problematic. Maybe I can extend it a bit in post.

Thanks again,

A revised presentation, and the leaf extended just a bit -- though maybe not quite enough. I do like this better.

Thanks for pushing me to think again about a square format, Roland!

I am a big fan of the square format in photography. Roland makes fun of me for that reason... But I must say that in this particular case, I prefer a rectangle. I feel that perhaps there's too much "squareness" in the composition itself and in the surrounding matte? Anyway, this is a fine addition to your "Dinner" series.

That makes sense. So I tried another version:

One thing I've learned from this shot is to not frame too tightly! Adding a matte has a big impact on the sense of space around an image, and it helps to have some wiggle room. (Thank heavens we can test on screen before investing in a print, matte and frame.)
