There's something about narrow and dark streets that draws me, too, to shooting this kind of scenes. Wherever I can find them, I shoot them. Whether I'm in Warsaw or Stockholm or some other place, I am mostly interested in an Old Town section of the city. I may later post something similar...
From the technical point of view, this is not a very easy scene to photograph - for an obvious reason. But I think you captured the climate of the agelessness very well. And I don't have any objections to your composition, either.

I get the feeling of having left a little restaurant just a second ago, and stepped into the bright, hot day. Looking up, my eyes are not yet adapted, so the lower part of the street is really dark. A nice mood. But I quickly want to look down, see what's going on on the street. As it is, my eye travels to the blue sky, from there to the little tower, to the lantern and then down to the sign in the street. Then, my eye wants to travel through the lower parts - and is stopped by the darkness.
I imagine this shot being part of a series, then the next shot would have to show some lower portions of the street. Standalone as it is here, I feel the contrast between the bright sky and the dark street is a bit too strong.
cheers
