In twilight common places have another life. In daylight neighborhood is ordinary, often ugly but nearly unnoticeable. In darkness well-known places start to influence on imagination and emotions, we see in different way, feel other impressions than those felt in daily routine. Trivial  events become mysterious in another light, when our vigilance is higher. Common neighborhood transforms to anxious dream.

Unfortunately, this linked picture does not show up in my browsers - I always get the shot downloaded... Looks like the mime type is broken by the blog site.

cheers

The link works for me, as is the photo.

Perhaps the reason it works for me is because it reminds me of my own series "Broken Image" (I have posted two or three photos from that series in the past). I think Grisha had a similar kind of inspiration (or revelation) for this photo. I love the half-conscious vision I find so often in my dreams. I have experienced more than once that the scene and/or action in my dream reveals to me something deeper and more important than the same scene viewed consciously in everyday life.

BTW, on another note, this shot looks like it was taken for the cover of one of many excellent albums released by the German record label ECM (my favored label of them all).

I am instantly thrown into a movie, a moment full of emotions. A path leading me right into the depth of the scene, a scene where I can hardly see enough to make it clear what is going on. I show a emotional response of uneasyness, a feeling like I've been weeping and the tears now make my sight blurry. Maybe it's plain fear and I am running like hell, again something that would make my sight blurred. But there is a calmness here. Something static. Cold. Dead. What a contrast...

The only change I'd probably consider is to remove the flare left of the bright light source, directly above the post.

I've been contemplating this image since it was first posted because I find it very intriguing yet vaguely dissatisfying, and have not been able to reconcile the two. It challenges my perception/response, in a good way.

As a viewer, I'm definitely the "star" in this scene. Will I go left down the road on foot, or take the car? Or perhaps venture into the building. Or maybe someone will come out of the building, get into the car and follow me down the road. Or maybe I'll just stand here and watch, with the light shining on me as the observer of whatever happens here.
