I don't know what is it about completely defocused photos. They are rare enough, but they almost always draw my attention and challenge my imagination.

This one, for example, reminds me of the time, almost 40 years ago, when I've been drafted to the military and have been participating in shooting exercises, wearing a gas-mask at the same time. I've been able to see just about that kind of view through the mask's goggles while target-shooting... Grin

I like the general composition and the lights/shadows balance, but I wish the transitions were smoother. They look a bit harsh right now. I tried to add some "black glow" to this image and it worked, but processing a JPG file adds some unwanted artifacts.

While there is enough distinct variation in the shot to provide me spaces to explore, I notice that I mostly am glued to the upper horizontal line. There, I see a halo just above the line and this distracts (attracts) me pretty much. The layering suggests depth, especially the dark horizon area. But it doesn't do much for me in terms of metaphors or stories.

When this first opened on my wide but narrow screen, I was quite taken with the panorama!

Scrolling down, however, the foreground 1/3 confuses me... All of a sudden, I feel like I'm above the clouds looking down into the dark, instead of surrounded by the atmospheric scene and looking forward.
