Fascinating.
I'm very intrigued by a number of elements in the original image -- their shapes, juxtaposition, and color.
But your post-processing crop makes me realize just how wedded I have been to the idea of full-frame captures.
I know my eye "zooms in" on some feature of scene, but have thought I should be able to capture that in-camera. Now I'm wondering... with 12mpx available, exactly why?
Huh.

Here's my impression: in the year 9999 B.C., on Friday, February 26th, at approximately 4:45 in the afternoon, a baby wooly mammoth sat by the side of its mom in the rays of the setting sun, letting his wound heal. That nasty saber-tooth tiger, trampled under big papa-mammoth feet, was laying spread across the snow under nearby trees. The ravens were just getting him...
Anyway, I would never guess that this texture could actually be a metal surface! The reference to Greek mythology in the title adds a big twist in yet another direction. Very intriguing...

Thank you. Well, April, I long ago lost my fear from going outside the classic photographic format... Sometimes the subject matter simply doesn't allow in any decent way to keep the original aspect ratio, and so I claim all the freedom I have through the ccd size...
@eob: thanks for the interesting interpretation. I always am inspired to read such interpretations as they add to my ability to associate with memories.
I love the way the scratches on the rusty iron suggest swishes and dynamics...
cheers
