I am so tempted to crop from the bottom up into a double-square format. I think because:

* While I enjoy the deepening sky above, there's nothing to see when I'm led there.

* I also enjoy the hint of what lies beyond, but again -- nothing to see there.

But with that crop, then the horizon rises and I feel like I'm peering through the grasses to what lies beyond. At the same time I become totally fascinated by the foreground patterns and texture. Warm against cool becomes more powerful, and my entire experience is one of depth and discovery.

I really like those aspects of your image.

When I first looked at this shot, I felt ambiguous. Somehow I was deeply fascinated, somehow I felt less than overwhelmed. So I tried to find out which part is responsible for what...  After reading Aprils comments, I started to understand what the reason for that ambiguous response is: the sky! Once I cut the sky down to below the topmost grass tips, the fascination became more and more pure. Very fascinating scene!

cheers

I agree about the sky. It looks artificial and it steals my attention, even though it is the least important part of this scene.
