I am currently studying a book from Harald Mante, professore for design and visual communication, about composition and color design. It's is the most valuable book I have read so far in the field of basic and advanced composition theory. I highly recommend this book, as it is not only nicely done and contains lots of great and educating photographs, but it also is compact and pretty straigh forward to read and understand.
From the effect of one point within a frame, the relations of two points, lines, forms etc etc. - lots of really very interesting thought fodder. And it also invites to try and detect all those compositional scenes in the real world. I had several books on photo design - this is the first one I will NOT give away, after reading.
