The wind-surfing sail in the lower left quarter, while relevant to the beach scene, breaks the visual composition unfavorably (at least in my eyes). Otherwise, I love everything in this shot: the light, the shadows, the silhouettes, even the odd colors of cross-processing add up to a very moody and interesting shot with a lot of specific local flavor.

How interesting! That's the one thing I can hold on to while diving deeper into this scene, suggestive of so many other activities and interactions that occurred during the day -- and will occur into the night. Without that anchor and diagonal lead, as a viewer I suspect I would be lost.

One thing I espcially enjoy about the cross-processing for this image is the way it hints at the tropical colors of water in the sky and heat on the land.

Very evocative.

To me, it is important to decided upon the intent. That gives the clue if the sail is just the perfect or the disturbing element of the scene.

With the sail in the composition, the scene becomes a modern meaning, it's telling me the story of a busy day and the city in the background is the icon for the living grounds, the foreground is the space where people recreate.

Without the sail, the scene becomes much more apocalyptic.

I can't decided which "flavour" I like better, but I certainly think they'd both be powerful.

cheers
